The year is 1980 – The midst of the Cold War
The vintage 1980 documentary, Nuclear Nightmares, is a great reminder that we need to prevent wars from beginning.
The Cold War may seem like ‘ancient history,’ but it really wasn’t that long ago.
Children in school today prepare with active shooter drills, since school shootings are a very real problem.
When I was a kid, we learned how to duck and cover as if our school desks could protect us from a nuclear bomb.
Understanding our history is a great step towards making better decisions in the future.

Synopsis
Nigel Calder brings us a visually frightening examination of the world’s Cold War era nuclear weapon infrastructure.
Host Peter Ustinov utilizes his wit and charm to narrate for the viewer how the US command and control system functions in both training and in the event of an actual retaliatory nuclear strike.
Also, the chilling means by which airpower, nuclear submarines and underground ICBM launch pads are employed ensures absolute vengeance on the aggressor.
Throughout the film, Ustinov colorfully illustrates several scenarios of what might happen if the missiles are unleashed and so commences “the war that must never happen.”
