Have you heard of a musical instrument called a Teacarina? I hadn’t, but, of course, I volunteered to try it out.
The Teacarina is a type of Ocarina. This family of wind instruments has been around for approximately 12,000 years. They can ben made from ceramic, clay, wood, glass, bone or plastic and they come in a variety of shapes and sizes. There is a mouthpiece that you blow into and 4-12 holes that can be covered or uncovered to produce different notes.
The ceramic Teacarina is actually a functional, double walled tea cup with a mouthpiece on the edge and holes in the outer layer on the side. You can drink your cup of tea and then play music when you’re done.
The Teacarina has four holes and is fairly easy to learn. Of course, with practice you can play complex and beautiful music, but I was able to follow the instructions and play recognizable tunes after only a few minutes.
The included instruction book gives the basic information you’ll need to get started. You’ll learn how to place your fingers to make the different notes. Picture music is given for several songs. I was able to instantly play Mary Had a Little Lamb and Take Me Out to The Ball Game.
Teacarinas can be played by kids and adults just for fun or they can be used by more serious musicians!
