Do you like history or politics? If so, John Quincy Adams: American Visionary is an excellent non-fiction book to read.
Way back when I was in the 5th grade, I did a report on this President. I can remember having a hard time finding books about him. My classmates who had been assigned others like Lincoln or Washington had their choice of many children’s books to use for their reports. Most of us still don’t know a whole lot about this President other than that he was the son of John Adams who was the first Vice President and second President of the newly United States.
Fred Kaplan has compiled and analyzed a huge amount of information about John Quincy Adams that makes it obvious that his influence in shaping our country was great. He was progressive in thought and action. He is compared to Lincoln, FDR and our current President Obama.
This is a fascinating book for those who like to understand how our past connects to our present and our future.
