Take a step back in to to Apartheid era South Africa, when you watch Trompie from the Retro Afrika movie collection.

Trompie is based on the South African youth book series by Topsy Smith that was first published in the 1950’s.

Then, it was adapted as a movie in 1975.

This 12 year old boy is a bit of a troublemaker, so you never know exactly what he and his buddies will get themselves mixed up in.

However, there will definitely be trouble.

The film is in Afrikaans and has English subtitles that are easy to follow.

Afrikaans sounds a bit like English, but it definitely is not.

Synopsis

Trompie and three of his mischief-making friends make up a neighborhood gang of which he’s the captain.

They’re typical 12 year-olds, full of brilliant ideas and escapades.

Whenever Trompie finds himself in a pickle, he talks his way out of trouble, repentant or not!

Based on the books by Topsy Smith.

Set in 1970’s Apartheid South Africa.
