Based on the story of Abraham, Sarah and Hagar
Harmonia
The Harmonia movie is based on the Bible story of Abraham, Sarah and Hagar.
It is a thought provoking tale, so you will want to discuss it with a friend after you have watched it.
The Old Testament story may be familiar to many of you, but thinking of it in modern terms was new to me.
I know the story of Abraham, Sarah and Hagar, but it never quite made sense to my modern American mind.
The short version of the story is that Abraham’s wife, Sarah, gave her Egyptian slave, Hagar, to her husband, so that Hagar could bear him a child.
Clearly, that entire sentence doesn’t sound possible or appropriate in the 21st century.
The film takes the basic concepts from the Bible story and gives them a modern plot. Many of the cultural issues raised are ones that have existed for centuries.
The story is thousands of years old, but the modern adaptation is fascinating and timely!

Synopsis
The film is a contemporary variation of the biblical story of Abraham, Sarah and Hagar.
Sarah, a harpist of the Jerusalem Philharmonic Orchestra is married to Abraham, its conductor.
When Hagar, a young Palestinian horn player joins the orchestra, the thin balance in their family is shaken.
Harmonia uncovers the metaphoric emotional roots of the ancient conflict between the two peoples living in Jerusalem, now seeking harmony through a dramatic encounter between Western and Eastern music.
