Cookbook Inspired By Studio Ghibli Anime

Anime fans will love the movie inspired Japanese recipes featured in The Unofficial Studio Ghibli Cookbook from Jessica Ann Yun.

My family loves Japanese food and Hayao Miyazaki Studio Ghibli films, so this cookbook is great for us.

Many of these animated movies have food woven into the stories.

In fact, after we watched Ponyo for the first time many years ago, I bought new ramen bowls.

Then I made ramen for my kids like Sosuke’s mom made for him and Ponyo.

Some of the foods in the cookbook instantly brought back memories of watching Studio Ghibli animated movies together as a family.

Following are some of our favorites:

  • Ponyo
  • My Neighbor Totoro
  • Spirited Away
  • Princess Mononoke
  • Castle In The Sky
  • Kiki’s Delivery Service

Clearly, we are going to need to plan a Studio Ghibli movie marathon at home complete with food from this cookbook.

Everything looks delicious and the recipes are clear and easy to understand, even for those who aren’t experienced with Japanese cooking.
