🧺 Everyday Science & Laundromat Adventures: My Review of Sort, Wash, ROAR!

Connecting early mathematical concepts to everyday household routines is one of the most effective ways to teach young children.

When kids see that science, technology, engineering, arts, and math (STEAM) are part of normal daily life (like helping out on laundry day) learning feels like natural, hands-on play!

As someone who loves sharing educational books during storytime with my grandkids, finding titles that turn ordinary chores into playful discovery is a joy.

That is why Sort, Wash, ROAR! by Songju Ma Daemicke immediately caught my eye!

Published by Charlesbridge as part of their wonderful STEAMworks board book series, this adorable story proves that early classification skills can be pure fun.

🧼 Sorting, Categorizing & Real-World STEAM

The story follows an energetic twin brother and sister duo, Anton and his sister, helping their Auntie Kate at the laundromat.

What starts as a simple chore quickly becomes a fun lesson in math and sorting:

  • Sorting & Classification: Kids learn to categorize items by color into lights and darks, and figure out how to handle unique multicolored items like hooded unicorn and dinosaur towels.
  • Relatable Household Fun: Grounding early math concepts in a familiar laundromat setting helps toddlers observe patterns, organize sets, and build problem-solving confidence.
  • Educational Back Matter: The book includes expertly crafted extension activities and background notes to help parents and caregivers continue the learning beyond the story.

🌐 Designed for Ages 0 to 3 (Plus Bilingual Options!)

Specifically created for babies, toddlers, and preschoolers ages 0 to 3, this sturdy board book holds up wonderfully to enthusiastic small hands.

It is also available in a dual English/Spanish edition (Clasifica, lava, ¡RUGE! / Sort, Wash, ROAR!), making it a brilliant choice for bilingual households and early language learning!
