How to Make Beaded Tennis Ball Hoop Earrings
Make these quick & easy colorful beaded tennis ball hoop earrings to wear them yourself or give the homemade jewelry as a gift.
The DIY earrings are made with simple supplies and no special tools are required.
The bold color hoop earrings are a fun way to show off your love of the game.
Bead Colors for Tennis Ball Earrings
I chose blue and green beads for the tennis ball earrings to coordinate with US Open courts.
If you play on a court that is a different color, you are welcome to use that for your earrings.
The tennis earrings would also look cute, if you used team colors to represent your child’s school or tennis club.
Of course, you can also use whatever color beads you happen to like.
Colorful Polymer Clay Heishi Beads
I love the look of small, flat heishi beads for homemade jewelry, so I have a big supply in my craft stash.
Traditional heishi (pronounced hee-shee) beads are formed from a clay made from ground up shell or stone powder.
Today the term is used for a variety of flat disc shaped beads.
The most common type of heishi beads used for DIY jewelry crafts are made from polymer clay and come in a wide variety of colors.
They can be purchased as strands of beads, packages of loose beads and boxed jewelry making kits with beads organized by color.
Typical size of the beads is 6mm wide by 1mm thick with a hole that is 2mm in diameter.
Beads are readily available in a wide variety of colors and they are very reasonably priced.
Sports Ball Beads
Tennis ball shaped beads look great and are easy to use, just like any other bead.
There are beads just like mine and others that have a slightly different size, color or style.
If you are just into tennis, you can get a whole pack of beads that are all tennis balls.
Or you can get a mixed package of beads that includes a variety of sports balls: footballs, tennis balls, soccer balls and volleyballs.
Hoop Earrings for Jewelry Making
Earring beading hoops are available in a variety of sizes and finishes at very reasonable prices.
You can get a package that includes all the same size and shape hoops or an assorted multipack that you can use to make a lot of fun hoop earrings.
For this pair of tennis ball earrings I used round 1.2″ silver tone hoops, since that is a good size for me and many others – not too big and not too small.
You are welcome to use whatever size works for you.
If you are using bigger hoops, you may want to add more heishi beads than I did for the 1.2″ hoops.
Polymer clay beads are light, but if you are adding more than I did on a larger hoop make sure the earrings will still be comfortable for you.
If you want to use smaller hoops, make sure the hoops are still big enough to accommodate the cute tennis ball bead.
