How To Make Polymer Dragon Fruit Earrings

This polymer clay dragon fruit hoop earrings craft is easy to make and the homemade jewelry is a fun conversation piece to wear.

Anyone can assemble these easy beaded earrings for a quick jewelry craft.

It doesn’t take any special skills and no special tools are needed.

The colors of the polymer beads are pretty, so it is fun to wear these fruit earrings.

You can also give them as a gift to a dragon fruit loving friend.

Polymer Fruit Beads

Dragon fruit beads are fun to use to make colorful earrings.

Fruit shaped beads made from polymer clay look great and are also easy to use for jewelry making at home.

The beads come packaged as mixed fruit, including dragon fruit beads that are pink on the outside and white with black “seeds” on the inside.

These are sturdy beads that will wear well and retain their bold colors, but they aren’t too heavy.

Holes are already drilled in the fruit beads going side to side, so they are ready to use.

You’ll be able to slip them right onto the hoop earrings.

Dragon Fruit

As soon as I saw my first dragon fruit, I was a fan.

Naturally, it’s fun to make wear homemade jewelry featuring this delicious and unique fruit.

This fruit is in the cactus family and the plants have spines, but the fruit doesn’t.

It’s easy to remove the soft peel to reveal the delicious fruit inside.

My beads are white fleshed dragon fruit, but you can also eat the red fleshed version.

Both colors have little crunchy black seeds inside.

Colorful Polymer Clay Heishi Beads

These earrings are made with dark purple polymer clay heishi beads, which are simple and look nice.

Pink, white, another shade of purple, or whatever other colors you like can be used, too.

Traditional heishi (pronounced hee-shee) beads are formed from a clay made from ground up shell or stone powder.

Today the term is used for a variety of flat disc shaped beads.

The most common type of heishi beads used for DIY jewelry crafts are made from polymer clay and come in a wide variety of colors.

They can be purchased as strands of beads, packages of loose beads and boxed jewelry making kits with beads organized by color.

Typical size of the beads is 6mm wide by 1mm thick with a hole that is 2mm in diameter.

Hoop Earrings for Jewelry Making

Earring beading hoops are available in a variety of sizes and finishes at very reasonable prices.

You can get a package that includes all the same size and shape hoops or an assorted multipack that you can use to make a lot of fun hoop earrings.

For this dragon fruit hoop earrings craft I used round 1.2″ silver tone hoops, since that is a good size for me and many others – not too big and not too small.

You are welcome to use whatever size works for you.

If you are using bigger hoops, you may want to add more heishi beads than I did for the 1.2″ hoops.

Polymer clay beads are light, but if you are adding more than I did on a larger hoop make sure the earrings will still be comfortable for you.

If you want to use smaller hoops, make sure the hoops are still big enough to accommodate the cute dragon fruit bead.

Instructions

1) Gather your supplies and make a plan for how you will arrange the colorful heishi and dragon fruit beads. Do yours exactly like mine or come up with your own unique design. This is the order of my beads:

2) Open up the hoops and slide the heishi and fruit beads onto the earrings.
