🎨 Retro Charm & Screen-Free Art Confidence: My Review of the Lakeshore Trace & Draw Projector

In a world filled with digital screens, finding hands-on, educational toys that genuinely spark creativity and encourage independent play is always a top priority for us.

As someone who loves doing custom DIY crafts, making paper art, and sharing creative activities with my grandkids, toys that build real fine-motor skills while keeping frustration at bay are an absolute treasure!

There is a delightful “retro feel” to a drawing projector.

This is the exact kind of creative activity tool I would have completely adored as a child, and now I love that my grandkids can enjoy it.

The Lakeshore Learning Trace & Draw Projector has become such a hit on our activity table!

🍎 The Lakeshore Difference: 70+ Years of Teacher-Driven Quality

When you invest in educational toys for children, brand reputation matters.

Lakeshore Learning is a teacher-driven company that has been trusted for over 70 years by educators, schools, and parents alike.

With more than 500 former teachers on their staff and product development team, every item they create is specifically engineered to meet real-world learning needs.

That signature durability and educational purpose shine through in every detail of this projector set.

✏️ How It Works: Easy 3-Step Tracing Fun

The projector itself is designed like a sturdy desk lamp with built-in slide holders and storage for supplies.

Using it is delightfully straightforward, allowing kids to work completely independently:

  1. Turn the Projector On: Flip on the lamp light (powered by 3 “C” batteries—meaning no cords, no outlet constraints, and full tabletop portability!).
  2. Pop in a Slide & Focus: Insert one of the included image discs and adjust the focus dial until the picture beams clearly onto your paper or cardstock below.
  3. Trace and Color: Children trace the crisp outline onto their paper and color it in using their favorite markers, crayons, or colored pencils!

🦁 84 Images Across 6 Fun Themes (Ages 5 to 11)

The set comes complete with 6 slides featuring 84 total images across six fantastic categories: Wild Animals, Nature, Ocean Life, Fantasy, Vehicles, and Dinosaurs.

While we adore all the categories, Ocean Life is currently our favorite to trace!

While you can purchase additional slide sets separately, the included 6 discs provide endless hours of creative entertainment.

Recommended for ages 5 to 11, it eases drawing frustration, builds fine-motor pencil control, and boosts artistic confidence.

It is ideal for solo play, taking turns with siblings, or quiet afternoon art time.
