Fossil Collection Finds

collection of fossils

Now is a great time to pick up some fossils for Shark Week, so that you can start your collection or add to one that you already have.

I have some fossils from when I was a kid, but that collection has grown since I had children of my own.

My boys and I have found fossils ‘in the wild,’ and we have purchased many others on our travels.

Recently, I discovered how easy it is to buy a wide variety of fossils online from Fossil Era.

Somehow, we didn’t have any shark teeth fossils in our collection, so I ordered a beautiful tooth.

Of course, I ordered some other fossils while I was at it.

Each fossil is unique, so once an item is sold there won’t be another one exactly the same.

When you see the perfect fossil for your collection, you will want to buy it quickly before someone else gets it.

They restock frequently, but you’ll want to check their website to see what is currently available.

Carcharodon planus Shark Tooth Fossil from Bakersfield

Fossils for Shark Week

Fortunately for us, sharks lose a whole lot of teeth throughout their lifetime and there are many places in the world where shark teeth have been well preserved.

The photo above is the carcharodon tooth that I purchased that is about 15 1/2 million years old.

This shark is a very distant relative of our modern day great white sharks.

It was found in Bakersfield, California, which is currently nowhere near the ocean.

There is lots to choose from in the shark tooth category at Fossil Era, so it’s easy to find one (or many!) that catch your eye.

Prices range from cheap enough for a child to purchase with their allowance to rare specimens that are worth thousands and plenty of others in between.

They even have a lot of Megalodon teeth!

my fossil order

I am absolutely thrilled with my order – ammonites, a fish, a shark tooth and a microbial mat.

Everything was packed with care, so each piece arrived in perfect condition.

There were no surprises, since each item was accurately described on the website.

They also included a description card with each one, so I can always remember exactly what they are.

This company is obviously not just a business, but a venture run by people who love fossils!
