Wood Heart Craft with Polymer Sweets

This Valentine sweet heart craft is perfect for the holiday, since candy, treats, and hearts are all synonymous with Valentine’s Day!
This project is incredibly simple, making it perfect for kids and adults of all skill levels to create a charming, personalized decoration.
You can make one heart by yourself or arrange for a group crafting activity at a party, in a classroom, or at a club meeting.
These finished hearts make a lovely Valentine’s Day gift or a cute decoration for your home or office.
The “Sweet” Secret: Polymer Confetti Slices 🧁
The fun, festive look of this craft comes from using tiny, pre-made polymer clay decorations.
What is Polymer Confetti?
- Time Saver: Instead of spending time rolling your own tiny polymer candy sticks, this project uses ready-to-use **polymer confetti slices**.
- Design: These are small bits of polymer clay typically used for mixing into slime, but they are perfect for this DIY craft. They are brightly colored and feature images of candy, cupcakes, and other delicious sweets.
- Placement: You can scatter the confetti randomly (like the example) or carefully arrange them to create a more organized, deliberate pattern.
Prepping the Wood Heart Base ❤️
Start with an unfinished wood heart that provides a beautiful, rustic, and durable foundation.
Choosing Your Base
- Unfinished Wood Heart: These are inexpensive, readily available, and great for a quick craft that still looks high-quality.
- Hanging: Make sure to choose hearts that already have a hole drilled in them for easy hanging. Some packs may even include twine or ribbon.
The Glue Layer
- Glue Choice: Regular white school glue that dries clear works perfectly for this project and is easy to clean up.
- Thinning: Mix the glue with a small amount of water in a dish to thin it out. This mixture is then “painted” onto the wood heart using a small paintbrush.
Tweezers and Top Coats: Crafting Tips 🖌️
A few optional tools and steps can greatly improve the final quality and ease of the craft.
- Use Tweezers: Pointed tweezers are not required, but they make it much easier to pick up the tiny polymer slices and position them exactly where you want them on the heart.
- The Top Coat: After the initial glue holding the slices has dried, apply a second layer—a top coat—of the thinned glue mixture over the polymer slices. This seals and protects the pieces, giving the finished heart a polished look.
- Hanging: Finish by tying a ribbon or twine through the hole for easy hanging. Red, white, or pink ribbon looks lovely for the Valentine theme.
